About Us
Baldiz, born in New Orleans, was founded by designer Jeanne Persac-Casey to offer high-quality, handcrafted accessories and home décor for the modern woman. We are a small, woman-run business with a passion for preserving traditional craftsmanship while celebrating bold, contemporary style.
Each piece in our collection reflects Jeanne’s unique design sensibility and a curated mix of authentically handmade goods created by skilled artisans from around the world. From Uzbekistan to Turkey, Eastern Europe to Mexico and Madagascar, our pieces bring vibrant color and soul back into handmade fashion, accessories, and home décor.
Ikat Fabric Technique
Our luxury bags and shoes feature authentic ikat fabric, handwoven on traditional looms in Uzbekistan and dyed in small batches. The final products are thoughtfully handcrafted in Turkey using this distinctive textile.
Due to the handmade nature of the fabric, each piece is truly one of a kind. Variations in color and pattern, along with small imperfections, are part of the fabric’s natural character and a mark of its authenticity.
Because ikat is woven in narrow, long panels, the layout must be adjusted for wider bags—so pattern placement will vary from piece to piece. These differences are intentional and highlight the uniqueness of every item.
We embrace these details as part of what makes ikat so special.
Palm Hats
Each Baldiz Palm Hat is handcrafted from natural palm leaves by skilled artisans in Mexico, making every hat truly one of a kind. No two are exactly alike—the subtle variations in color come from the natural properties of the palm itself. Seasonal changes and the water intake of the palm trees affect the shade of the leaves, so each hat reflects a moment in time and nature.
These exquisite hats highlight both the raw beauty of natural materials and the artistry of traditional craftsmanship. Due to their handmade and organic nature, they are not waterproof.
Natural Raffia
Our raffia bags are handcrafted using traditional weaving techniques, which means each piece arrives in its natural, unshaped form. To ensure your bag looks its best, we recommend a few simple steps upon receiving it:
Trimming: The sides of the bag and the ties around the tassels will need to be removed. These can be carefully clipped with scissors.
Shaping: To achieve the true shape of your bag, we suggest stuffing it with tissue paper, fabric, or any lightweight filler for a few days. This will help restore its intended structure after transit.
These small adjustments will allow your raffia bag to settle into its beautiful, handcrafted form. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
